Wacky Noises Indeed!

Since I’ve been back in Liverpool I’ve been busy developing an online course for Reluctant Public Speakers. I’d be interested to know if you have any concerns about public speaking, and if so, would you be willing to share them with me? Here is a short form where you can offer some suggestions and/or requests. For anyone who fills in the survey, I am happy to respond to your particular concerns. Just include your email at the end of the survey. I’m delighted to report that the “Voice of the Clown” workshop at the Voice Foundation Annual Symposium – Care of the Professional Voice – in Philadelphia on 31st May was an absolute HOOT! The room was, as expected, not …

What is Authentic Voice?

Pamela Kay is a voice coach based in Bedfordshire, England. She has a weekly programme on her local community radio station, Secklow Sounds 105.5 FM, in which she discusses all matters voice, and shares some dandy vocal exercises with her listeners. Here is an edited version of the programme which aired on 27th February 2019, in which Pamela interviewed me on the subject of Authentic Voice – what is it, why would you want it, and how to you get it? We didn’t manage to answer all of those questions, but we had a mighty good go at it! In other news, I’ve been invited to present my workshop “Fully Integrated Actor Training: Voice of the Clown” at the Voice …

Clown Actor Workshop in London

Come and play for 4 hours, on Wednesday 5th April, 12 noon to 4 pm. I’ll be in town with Dame June Bloom, performing in the evening, so I’d love to spend some time exploring all aspects of our creativity. From Red Nose to classical Shakespeare performance, who nose better (or whose knows is better?) than the clown how to play? Bring a text, a story, a song, an instrument, an idea or just bring yourself. We’ll work with Ira Seidenstein’s Quantum Clown: Slapstick to Shakespeare techniques to free up a few silly cells in our bodies. Let’s play! Share this Post

Great Group Warmups 1 – The Ball Game

Picture the scene: a group of eighteen intelligent, imaginative and hard working actors, or sales people, or executives, or teachers – for example… They are all present and on the floor in good time for the session, standing in a circle and laughing and chatting nervously, excitedly. Two questions: What is the fastest way to get their attention, to help them to become focussed and to stay focussed for the rest of the session? Why would you want to do that? The quick answer to 2. is easy: because they will learn more if they give the work in hand their full attention. Of course. But more important than that, they will discover that being focussed, and staying focussed takes …

Travel Plans 2014

I am so excited I am almost beside myself.  If there were two of me, we would be jumping up and down and hugging each other. But since it’s just me, myself and I, we will all three of us settle down and share the news. The actual travel dates are not yet finalised, but this is roughly my itinerary: Brisbane to Seattle – mid-June Seattle to New York – late-June-July New York to Liverpool, UK – mid-August Liverpool to Au Brana, France – mid-September then back to Brisbane. In New York, I’ll be undertaking the Knight-Thompson Teacher Certification course.  In Au Brana I’ll be training with John Britton (Duende-Ensemble) on creating solo performance. I am also planning to get …
