Mask work without the masks, this is intensive training in practical performance skills, integrating voice, body and text with vocal, physical and emotional truth.
Shakespeare’s Archetypes
Intensive workshop for actors and singers, exploring archetypes and Shakespeare’s text. Archetype training is fully embodied, physical and vocal, a way of experiencing different ways of being, of thinking, of imaginative self expression.
Refresh yourself with an immersion in Shakespeare’s words in the company of Hero, Fool, Huntress, Mother, Sage and Trickster (and others).
Using cue scripts, and Original Shakespeare Co’s “rules of the game”, we’ll play with Shakespeare and allow Shakespeare to play (with) us.
This workshop is open to professional, experienced performers, directors and teachers, drama students, as well as students preparing for drama college auditions.
I attended Flloyd Kennedy’s Shakespeare’s Archetypes workshop on Sunday May 31st 2026. While I choose to not perform publicly anymore I have an extensive background in theatre and have trained with elite practitioners and researchers over many years. I still do acting workshops as I want to understand from where exceptional performance emanates and how to provide a gateway to this in my writing and directing roles.

The workshop was fun as well being hard work. It pushed me to places I have not been for many years as I explored the links between physical body, heart/soul and where the conscious fits in that. To again find how much the meaning of words can change as the archetype changes. How we can glide between archetypes in a section of text to find its full richness, especially when they are Shakespeare’s words. While the workshop seemed simple, Flloyd took me to the roots of how and why I express myself in theatre.
It is also a joy to work a group of vibrant actors exploring their artform.
The session was brilliant. I always feel your sessions feed my brain and allow me to discover new things that I can apply in creative practice. It was a very freeing exercise that allowed us to play, explore things we may not have thought to on our own and learn from each other and collective experiences. I appreciated the exercises and how you shared your knowledge, background and ideas around them. When you practice something new and tap into a new skill or experience it almost feels like a super power when you hold the right moment for however long. Also, as always I felt the environment was safe, supportive and curious. I’d have been unable to explore as much and learn to the same degree if I did not feel this.
